Subsequently, Peter and John preached the resurrection from the dead to the people. They explained how the Romans crucified Jesus. They preached that on the third day he rose from the dead. We are witnesses of these things, they say.
Boldness to Speak About the Resurrection From the Dead
As a result, those that rejected the resurrection from the dead arrested them. They kept them in jail over-night.
“And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them” (Acts 4:23).
Anytime any group or groups of persons act as one or act with one mind they are formidable and unstoppable.
“And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is” (Acts 4:24).
This was one of the first demonstrations of unity and togetherness by the apostles.
Peter Needs Boldness to Recount the Scriptures to the People
Therefore, Peter recounted the Scriptures to them. He told them that all that they did to Jesus Christ, God had foreordained.
“Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?” (Acts 4:25).
“The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ” (Acts 4:26).
“For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together” (Acts 4:27).
“For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done” (Acts 4:28).
These Apostles Didn’t Just Pray for Boldness to Speak
They did everything in the wonderful name: Jesus Christ and you should too. This name is above all other names in heaven and in earth.
The Lord instructed us to ask for what we desire and we shall have it (Matthew 7:7 & Luke 11:9). These apostles asked for boldness and He gave it to them.
“And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness” (Acts 4:31).
But this is merely the beginning of how bold they will become.
Being audacious may not seems like a big deal to many. Realize, though, that the apostles of Jesus Christ, were in the minority.
Many of the people rejected the “hearsay” that the apostles preached. Hence the need for much confidence.
When do you Need Boldness to Speak?
When your message is popular and accepted by most, there is hardly any need for much confidence in disseminating that Word.
However, there is much need when the opposite is true. And especially when you are teaching that a man who was dead for three-days is alive.
For this reason boldness to speak in the name of Jesus is necessary. So, too is the operation and unequivocal display of power.
Because nothing silences the detractors like the demonstration of God’s power. This glorifies Him when done through the name of Jesus Christ.
