The Last Days?
Are we living in the last days? “Now the Spirit” speaks “expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils,” 1 Timothy 4:1.
Apostle Paul was quick to point out to Timothy that the “Spirit” speaks in the “latter times” or the last days. But when are the last days?
The last days are not a new phenomenon. Jacob (Israel) gathers his twelve sons to explain what would befall them in the last days.
“And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days,” Genesis 49:1.
Isaiah and Micah, two prophets of God, foretell the rising to prominence of “the mountain of the house of the LORD” in the last days, Isaiah 2:2 and Micah 4:1.
When is the start of the “last days”? What are signs of the “last days”? Every era has its own signs. Apostle Peter provides us with a sign. He tells us that, “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation,” 2 Peter 3:3 – 4.
This is something I have heard others say since I was a child. Elders say they have been hearing that God is coming from they were children and He hasn’t come yet. Nevertheless, we are still in the last days.
In The Last Days Perilous Times Shall Come
Another sign that we are experiencing the last days is the presence of dangerous times. Paul tells Timothy, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come,” 2 Timothy 3:1. Are we in “perilous times” now?
By far, one of the most definitive indicators that we are in the “last days” is the out-pouring of the baptism of the Holy Ghost. However, this has been happening for the past two thousand years. The first occasion of Spirit baptism was the Day of Pentecost.
Listen to the Lord as He speaks about the last days. He says, “And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: Acts 2:17 – 18.
As long as people are still receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost, we’re still in the “last days”. When will the last days become the last day?
Daily, all over the world, people who believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God continue to receive his Spirit. Therefore, evidently we’re still in the last days. If we’re not in the last days, the Lord would not be “pouring out of His Spirit” and Jesus would cease to speak.
God in the Last Days Speaks to us by his Son – Jesus Christ
“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds,” Hebrews 1:1 – 2.
The “last days” is a segment of time. We don’t know the quantum of time, but we know when it will end. The following signs indicate the end of the last days. “And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come….,” Acts 2:19 – 20.
Are you ready for “the great and notable day of the Lord”? Cease getting read. The last days have been the last days for the last two thousand years, but they could become the last day in an instant. Be ready! Be ready and waiting for the appearing of the Lord. Today, accept Jesus Christ as Lord of your life, and spend eternity with him.
