There was a war in Heaven!

Why Was There a War in Heaven?

And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven,” Revelation 12:7-8.

Note, the Scriptures did not say there was war in heaven between the dragon and God, it simply say, there was war in heaven. This is important because the war in heaven was between two groups, Satan and his angels and Michael  the Arch Angel and his angels. Michael and his angels won. Now the dragon’s heart was revealed he could not continue in heaven. The dragon was banished from heaven. Michael and his angels expelled the dragon.

“And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him,” Revelation 12:9.

Subsequent to the war in heaven the dragon was permanently and forcefully thrown out of heaven, Luke 10:18. While he was departing, he took one third of heaven’s angels with him. These are the same angels who fought with the dragon against Michael, Revelation 12:4.

Note, despite the fact that Revelation Chapter Twelve Verse Four appears before verse nine, nevertheless, these rebellious angels were not “cast out into the earth” until verse nine. These same dark angels assisted the dragon in his war in Heaven against Michael.

The Dragon Made War in Heaven Because of The Two Olive Trees

John saw in his vision, before the war in heaven, the dragon waiting for the birth of the son of the woman clothed with the sun “to devour him”. However, he failed and the son escaped, Revelation 12:5, this made the dragon very furious.

It was this anger and fury of the dragon, which resulted in the war in heaven. The dragon made war in heaven because heaven, through the Two Olive Trees, assisted Jesus. Satan was angry and furious at Michael and heaven because they assisted Jesus Christ and he could not succeed in devouring him. After the war in heaven the dragon was cast out to earth, then he turned his attention to the woman clothed with the sun. He wanted to destroy her too, so she ran into the desert, Revelation 12:6.

Owing, to the speed of the dragon’s expulsion from heaven he was surprised when he arrived on earth. However, when he realized that he was “cast unto the earth” he pursued the woman clothed with the sun with vengeance, he “persecuted” her, Revelation 12:13.

Please Don’t Misinterpret John’s Vision of The War in Heaven

Finally, let’s recap. The vision of John the Divine started in Revelation Chapter Four Verse One. In that Scripture we learn, his vision concerns “things which must be hereafter”, i.e. things of the future. However, most of Revelation Chapter Twelve is dedicated to the events, which preceded future events. Everything that John saw up to the war in heaven and the casting out of the dragon happened already.

Please, don’t misinterpret John’s vision of the war in heaven. The dragon did not leave heaven; come to earth attempt to kill Jesus; then went back to heaven and started a war in heaven with Michael. John’s vision reveals why there was war in heaven. The Lord gave John a brief view of the past to explain the future. Once the dragon was expelled from, heaven he never returned and cannot return for the Lord God is holy. The dragon is evil and evil and holy cannot co-exist.

When the dragon realized, he would not be able to kill the Son of the woman be revolted, he made war in heaven. Recall, the dragon is a very wise spirit, (Ezekiel 28:3 and Genesis 3:1), he saw into the future, that Jesus would defeat him and this made him angry so he war in heaven with Michael. He was still in heaven.

Jesus knows your future he has already written it. However, to arrive at your future according to the Lord’s plan for your life you must obey His commands, His Words. Submit your will to Jesus, believe he is the Son of God, and trust him. The dragon made war in heaven because he refused to submit to God He wanted to be God.

In closing, accept Jesus Christ and inherit the future he has prepared for you, there will be no war in heaven when you accept Christ only rejoicing.
