Seven Heads and ten Horns
“And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads,” Revelation 12:3.
The first wonder in heaven of course is the pregnant woman we looked at yesterday. The great red dragon had seven heads and ten horns. What is the significance of the seven heads? Why didn’t the dragon have four heads ? What is the importance of “seven heads”; why not five or six heads?
Satan imitates and duplicates the Kingdom of God. He and his angels even transform themselves as angels of light. Satan tries to represent himself as God even in his composition. Recall, Satan is an evil spirit. The Lord God is the Holy Spirit. What am I getting at? There are seven Spirits before the throne of God in heaven. John the Divine brought greeting from them to the Seven Churches of Asia, Revelation 1:4. Other references of the seven Spirits of God include Revelation 3:1; 4:5 and 5:6.
Because the Lord has seven Spirits Satan has to have seven spirits too. Jesus provides a perfect explanation below:
“When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he finds it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goes he, and takes with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation,” Matthew 12:43-45. Note, the “unclean spirit” went and got seven other unclean spirits. Why seven? Luke 11:26.
Do you recall how many “devils” Jesus cast out of Mary Magdalene? Seven! Why seven? Luke 8:1-2.
Satan has Seven Heads – Seven Spirits Because he Wants to be God
Since God has seven Spirits before His throne Satan has seven spirits too because he wants to be God. That desire was what got him kicked out of heaven. Therefore, Satan also has seven spirits. Needless to say, where you find any of his seven spirits he is present.
For this reason, the red dragon had seven heads with seven crowns on his heads attempting to demonstrate he is seven times the king of heaven. Many say seven is the number of God. Therefore, the enemy tries to imitate God by using seven too, seven devils, seven heads and seven crowns.
Personally, I think, eight is the number of God. God has seven Spirits before His throne plus the Spirit of the Lord.
The seven heads of the dragon do not indicate he is seven times wiser
“And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born,” Revelation 12:4.
The tail of the dragon “drew” a third of the angels of heaven and dispatched them into the “earth”. This act warrants assistance from heaven because humanity without the Spirit of God is no match for Satan. That is why Jesus came, to give us victory over darkness.
Finally, the seven heads of the dragon do not indicate he is seven times wiser, he would want us to think that. Satan uses seven to imitate God and fool unsuspecting Christians. However, Satan is a very wise spirit and that is why we need the power of the Holy Ghost to defeat him.
The seven heads are seven unclean spirits and the ten horns are ten leaders in the earth. You could view them as ten kingdoms govern and headed by the red dragon himself.
Have you accepted Jesus Christ and his Spirit? Have you believed on Jesus and have you been born again? Our intellect pales against our chief adversary but we serve a God who has all power in heaven and in earth and he lives in our heart. The Holy Ghost residing in your heart is more power than all the devils can handle for He is the power of God.
