Jesus: the Dragon Tried to Make a Meal of the Woman's Son

The Dragon Tried to Kill Jesus

Who is this Pregnant Woman in Heaven?

This is the first time one reads of a woman in heaven. Obviously, this woman is symbolic, therefore let’s establish the meaning of her imagery. Seeing this strange woman is the common thread in this needlework, let’s establish her identity and weave all her other attributes into whom she is.

“And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered,” Revelation 12:1-2.

In Revelation Chapter Ten verse one we read:” And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire.”

Both phenomena are similar because they are both ”clothed” with a heavenly body, one with a cloud the other with the sun; one had a rainbow on his head the other a crown of twelve stars; she had the moon under her feet but he had unusual feet of fire.

Similar to solving any problem in life, let’s move from the known to the unknown. We know the ‘red dragon’ , he is the Devil, or Satan, Revelation 12:9. Next, we know, the dragon was waiting for the woman to give birth to her son so he can devour him. Therefore, Satan is trying to kill a baby boy. Who is this male infant?

Herod tried to kill the woman and her son Jesus

Satan is the evil spirit. Pharaoh represents the Devil who killed many little baby boys in an attempt to kill Moses. However, the death of Moses was not Satan objective. He wanted to destroy the linage of Jesus. His plan was to destroy the future. Herod also had the spirit of Satan for he tried to kill baby Jesus even before he was born. Both of these leaders embodied the spirit of the dragon, Satan, waiting on the birth of a boy, Jesus, to kill him.

We know the baby boy is Jesus because of how the Scriptures describe him. First, he is “to rule all nations with a rod of iron,” Revelation 12:5. This, is precisely the terms the Son of Man, Christ Jesus, used to describe Himself earlier in Revelation 2:26-28.

Long before John the Divine got his revelation of Jesus Christ King David communed with God and identified this peculiar behavior as Christ’s towards the ‘heathen’, Psalm 2:8-9. Therefore, we know the ‘man child’ is Jesus Christ.

The remainder of the verse, “and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne”, tells of Jesus’ ascension into heaven and inform us of his royalty. Jesus is King in heaven because he has a throne and he wears a golden crown. Only royalty wear golden crowns.

The woman ‘clothed’ in the sun is the mother of Jesus

By identifying the child of the “woman clothed with the sun” , Jesus Christ, we can identify the child’s mother. In this instance, the woman (the mother) is also symbolic, she does not represent Jesus’ biological mother, Mary. The woman ‘clothed’ in the sun represents Jesus’ mother because she produced a group of people who through the ages led to the birth of Jesus Christ.

The woman “clothed” in the sun represents the nation of Israel. Israel is the genealogical mother of Jesus Christ because one can trace his linage within that group of people. The crown the woman wears with the twelve stars representing her twelve children symbolizes the twelve tribes of Israel, which comprise the nation of Israel. Jesus came from the Tribe of Judah.

Finally, we have established the identities of the woman and her son. The baby boy is Jesus Christ and the woman clothed in the sun is Israel the nation Jesus came from. In heaven, Israel is royalty because she wears a “crown”. The birth of Jesus was conceived in heaven before it was actualized in the earth. We witness the mother of Jesus, the only woman and the only pregnant woman, in heaven.

Take full advantage of the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus died to save humanity from the wrath of Satan. Believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and give the Devil a kick into the lake of fire. Jesus is our only hope of eternal life in “bliss”. Believe on Jesus and receive his plan of salvation; confess and repent of your sins, turn to God by accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior and receive his baptisms.

In closing, join me tomorrow. Tomorrow , if the Lord tarries, I shall examine another aspect of this “great wonder in heaven”, the pregnant woman, and the mother of Jesus, in labor pains.
