Do you love your God more than yourself?
Love God by Loving the Lord Jesus With All Your Soul
- “And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these,” Mark 12:29 – 31.
I have look at many aspects of the soul. However, the ability of man to love God transcends every component of man, body, soul and spirit. The Lord God requires man to love Him with his entire being. Moses constantly reminded Israel of the Lord’s requirement, Deuteronomy 10:12.
What does it mean to love the Lord with each constituent of a man? The summary of this is that there is no area of a person left to love anyone, love anything, or love self for he is total consumed in loving the Lord God. The heart is the spirit of man, Deuteronomy 2:30.The mind provides the reason and “strength” provides the power to do everything even loving.
How can a person reach the point where he loves the Lord God above everyone and everything even more than himself? Let’s approach this from another angle. Jesus told us a similar thing for he said, “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters,” yes, “and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple,” Luke 14:26. This is the same sacrifice the Lord requires of us according to Scriptures above.
Loving the Lord God with your entire being is only possible through loving Jesus Christ. We can love the Lord without reservations only when our soul is restored to its original state. This is when the Believer’s soul is “quicken” and come to life again because he receives the baptism of the Holy Ghost, that is the Sipit of Christ.
Love God With All Your Soul by Loving the Lord Jesus
Secondly, not all Believers who have received the Holy Ghost love the Lord this way. A person that loves the Lord with every fiber of his being makes a statement of complete trust in Him. This is the point where nothing else matters but loving and pleasing God. At his point, the Believer is saying, Lord if it means that I may lose my life I will still love and serve you; If I lose my family I will love and serve you; nothing is more important to me than loving and serving you. This is the point of absolute trust in God and where one Loves Him above all else; at this point the Believer has proven that the Lord is God to him.
Finally, the un-restored soul loves only itself because it’s still separated from God by sin. Only when the soul is restored can man really love as God created him to love. The Lord asked us to hate father, mother, wife, children, brethren, sisters and our own life to be his disciple. However, the Lord is not asking us to literally “hate” them for He is God. God is love and there is no hate in Him.
Hate Your Relatives by Loving the Lord Jesus - Love God With All Your Soul
If Jesus were asking us to “hate” all our relatives, family and self He would not be better that the Devil. There’s no similarity here folks. Jesus really means for us to love him with all our being. We hate everything and everyone even our self by loving God with all our being, then there is nothing left to love anyone or anything. Therefore, we hate our relatives and family members when we love God completely. God is therefore asking us to love, not hate.
In closing, do you love the Lord Jesus above all? If Jesus is not God in your life when the Devil afflicts whatever it is that is god in your life it has the potential to destroy your faith in God. Moreover, when you love God with all your being there is nothing Satan can do to you or anyone connected to you, which will destroy your faith in God. However, by loving Jesus with all your being you make a definite statement. You have declared to all, that regardless of what’s happening in your life nothing is more important to you than to love and to serve God through Jesus Christ, not even your own life. If you make such a stance God will honor your declaration of love for Him because He’s faithful.
Final words, Job proved that he love the Lord above everything else, even above himself and God honored him for his love. Yes, every Believer needs to prove his love for Jesus and it has a price. Jesus openly demonstrated his love for the world by dying for us. He will honor your show of love of Him for His name’s sake.
