Jesus Christ Demonstrates the Lord God is Merciful
“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy,” Matthew 5:7.
The Lord God proclaimed the name of the Lord to Moses. He informed Moses that the Lord God is merciful and His mercy is contained in the name of the Lord God. Who, besides Believers of Jesus Christ, can make such a bold claim about their god and substantiate it? The Lord Jesus Christ demonstrates the Lord God is merciful, Exodus 34:1-9.
A married woman was caught having sex with a man other than her husband, John 8:1-11. The Legalistic Jews brought her to Jesus. According to Moses’ Law, she should die by the testimony of two or three witnesses by stoning. The Jews, in an attempt to entrap Jesus in his speech, brought the woman to Jesus and asked for his recommendations. Jesus’ response convicted the woman’s accusers but forgave her. Jesus is merciful and forgave her of her sins. Legally, she deserved to die because the Law condemns her but the Lord God is merciful and demonstrates this through Jesus Christ. He is merciful and forgave her. He gave her a new lease on life.
Similarly, Believers in Jesus Christ should have mercy on each other. We should be merciful in our dealing with each other for if we show ourselves merciful the Lord Jesus promised to be merciful to us.” With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, and with the upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright,” 2 Samuel 2:26.
Many times Jesus by his miracles demonstrates the Lord God is merciful. He healed a man crippled for thirty-eight years because he was merciful to him, John 5:1 -8. Jesus healed many other people with sicknesses and diseases because they asked, desired to be whole but mainly because the Lord God is merciful through Jesus Christ.
Jesus demonstrates the Lord God is merciful to the blind; the leapers; the widows and the sick. He gave the blind sight; he cleansed the leapers; he restores the widow’s dead and he healed the sick because the Lord God is merciful through Jesus Christ.
Jesus Demonstrated That the Lord God is Merciful to a Samaritan
The daughter of a Greek woman was possessed by devils. She approached Jesus and asked him to show mercy on her daughter and heal her. Her timing was wrong for Jesus was ministering to the Jews and it was not time to bless the Gentiles yet. However, because of her great faith in Jesus, he went against protocol and healed the daughter because the Lord God is merciful through Jesus Christ.
Jesus continues to display that the Lord God is merciful. The Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Nevertheless, the Lord Jesus inconvenienced himself and traveled through Samaria to be merciful to a Samaritan woman living a promiscuous lifestyle, John 4:1 – 30. The Lord Jesus demonstrated that the Lord God is merciful.
How has the Lord God been merciful to you? Maybe you should have had an accident but the Lord by His mercies spared you. Maybe you should have lost your job but had it not been for the mercies of the Lord you would be unemployed. Maybe you should have lost your home. Even now, you don’t know how but it was the merciful Lord Jesus that saves your home from foreclosure. Maybe sickness should have destroyed your body but the Lord is merciful to you and you are alive today. Many people, you know, have not recovered from the illness you recovered from, but you pulled through because the Lord is merciful to you. Our God, the Lord God is a merciful Savior.
Jesus the sinless died for the sinful, the Lord God is merciful through Jesus Christ our Lord
In closing, the Lord God in proclaiming “the name of the LORD” to Moses told him He’s a merciful God. The world knows the Lord God is merciful through the goodness of Jesus Christ. The mercy of the Lord God is inherent in His name, the name of Jesus. There’s no way to extricate the mercies of God from His name for the two are one. When you say the name of the Lord God, which is Jesus, you speak mercy. The Lord God is merciful through Jesus Christ.
Jesus continues to demonstrate that the Lord God is merciful. Humanity was sold to destruction by the sin of Adam. Each person should have died because of his sin but Jesus showed us mercy for he died in our place, he died for us. Jesus the sinless died for the sinful, the Lord God is merciful through Jesus Christ our Lord.
