The Messianic Prophecy

King David while in great distress prays a few Messianic Prophecies. Today, I shall highlight one of these prophecies; “They pierced my hands and my feet,” Psalm 22:16.  The remaining Messianic prophecies from this text will be dealt with eventually.

Many of the Messianic Prophecies are from the Book of Psalms and consequently by David. The prophet Zechariah made a more general Messianic Prophecy, Zechariah 12:10. I described this as a general Messianic Prophecy because it speaks generally of Christ being pierced. Christ had very specific piercing therefore it is for all those who inflicted him with these various specific piercing. Both Jesus’ hands and both his feet were pierced and recall Jesus’ side was pierced too.

“For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet,” Psalm 22:16.

Messianic Prophecy – Fulfillment

None of the other gospels, except St. John, records the fulfillment of this Messianic Prophecy.

Messianic Prophecy – Fulfillment

After Jesus’ resurrection, according to the Gospel of St. John, he appeared to his disciples. On one of these occasions, Thomas (Didymus) was absent. When he returned, the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord,” John 20:25.

Thomas or doubtful Thomas as he is popularly known, in Christendom, gives a reply, which has since become very popular. Thomas said:

“Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe,” John 20:25.

Faith Essential to benefit from Messianic Prophecy

In closing, Thomas made this statement while Jesus was absent. Eight days later Jesus reappeared to his disciples again. The doors were shut when Jesus appeared among his disciples and Thomas was present. Jesus greeted all his disciples then he spoke to Thomas.

“Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing,” John 20:27.

Then Thomas answered him, “My LORD and my God.”
