Apostle Paul Purification

Welcome to you, to our Book of Acts Bible Study, “Believers of Jesus Christ Help – Apostle Paul.” Today, we shall conclude our study of Acts Chapter Twenty One, Acts 21:27 – 40.

Apostle Paul agreed to participate in the purification with four others. However, when seven days of purification were almost finished the Jews from Asia, recognized Paul, restrained him, and motivated the people in the temple to kill him, Acts 21:27.

The Asian Jews shouted, “Men of Israel Help: This is the man, that teaches “all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place: and further he brought Greeks also into the temple, and”  has  “polluted this holy place,” Acts 21:28.

Moreover, all the people of the city were in uproar and the mob took Apostle Paul out of the temple, and immediately they shut the doors, Acts 21:30.

As the crowd was, beating Paul the “Chief Captain of the band” took “soldiers” and rescued him. The Chief Captain arrested the victim. He ordered Paul “bound with two chains”; then he inquired of his identity and what he had done, Acts 21:33.

When the Chief Captain could not ascertain from the crowd the answers to those questions he “commanded” that Apostle Paul be brought into the “castle”, Acts 21:34. While Paul was escorted by soldiers to the “stairs” the mob followed them shouting, “Away with him,” Acts 21:36. However, as Apostle Paul was almost in the building he asked the Chief Captain, “May I speak to you?” Who, in turn asked Paul, do you speak “Greek?” Acts 21:37.

Apostle Paul -   Jew of Tarsus City in Cilicia

Earlier, in Acts 21:33, we learnt the “Chief Captain” wanted to know who Apostle Paul was. Now, he uses this opportunity to personally ask Paul about his identity, Acts 21:38. Nevertheless, he had Paul confused with someone else, therefore, Paul declared, “I am a man which am a Jew of Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no” low place.

Apostle Paul also used this opportunity  to speak to ask the Chief Captain to speak with the mob, Acts 21:39. Then the Captain  gave Paul permission and the latter, “beckoned with his”  “hand” to “the people.” As soon as the people were, very quiet Paul began to speak in Hebrews to them, Acts 21:40.

The unbelieving Jews were so blinded with unbelief they could not see that Paul was teaching about Christ whom they been waiting and watching to see. They made false witnesses against Stephen and now, against Apostle Paul.

The Jews claimed Apostle Paul teaches:

  • Against the people
  • Against the law
  • Against the Temple and
  • He polluted the Temple.

These are fabricated claims, all lies.

The crowd is seldom right, correct or accurate. They were not correct with Jesus; with Stephen and now with Apostle Paul. The irony of the situation the soldiers arrested the victim and not the perpetrators; they did the same thing with Christ.

Apostle Paul taught repentance to God & faith to the Lord Jesus Christ

Apostle Paul taught repentance to God and faith to the Lord Jesus Christ. Today, the “crowd” of religious organizations and people claim repeating a prayer is adequate to save your soul but Paul, Jesus and the Apostles of Jesus taught differently. They teach repentance, baptism in water in the name of Jesus and receiving the Holy Spirit produce salvation.

The mob, “multitude” or crowd shouted at Paul, “Away with him,” it was the same thing they shouted after Jesus, “Away with him,” Luke 23:18 and John 19:15.

Finally, Jesus says, in Scriptures, if we cannot take up our cross daily and follow him we are not worthy and we cannot be his disciples. Would you want to speak to a crowd about salvation immediately after they lied on you and  almost murdered you?

However, if you are at that place where Jesus wants us to be you would. Jesus told us we have to love him more than our own lives and if we are at that point in our Christian walk we would have no reservations about talking to them. It is this place,  that the Lord wants his Believers to reach, spiritually, where you deny yourself for the Gospel’s sake and esteem it more than your very life. This was the place Apostle Paul was why he was happy talking to a mob who almost killed him.
