Apostle Paul Left Athens and Went to Corinth

Welcome to you, to our Book of Acts Bible Study, “Apostle Paul Stayed in Corinth 18 Months “Teaching the Word of God.” Today, we start Acts chapter eighteen, Acts 18: 1 – 11.

After Apostle Paul made his speech at Areopagus, he left Athens and went to Corinth, which is west of Athens, Acts 18:1. In Corinth, Apostle Paul “found” a Jew, Aquila and his wife Priscilla, Acts 18:2. Owing to the fact, Aquila and Apostle Paul were of the same occupation being “tent makers” Paul stayed with them, Acts 18:3.

Every Saturday, Sabbath, Apostle Paul “reasoned in the synagogue,” and persuaded the Jews and Greeks that Jesus was Christ, Acts 18:4 – 5.

However, many of the Jews opposed themselves and blasphemed. Consequently, Apostle Paul told them, he would no longer minister to the Jews, of Corinth but to the Gentiles. He told them he would go to the Greeks, Acts 18:6.

True to his words, Apostle Paul went and minister to the Gentiles of Corinth. First, he stayed with a Greek, Justus, a worshipper of God with strong affiliation to the synagogue, Acts 18:7. While Paul stayed at Justus’ house, many citizens of Corinth heard the Word of God and believed.  A Chief Ruler of the synagogue, Crispus, believed on the Lord with his entire family and all were baptized in Jesus name, Acts 18:8.

“Then one night the Lord spoke to Apostle Paul in a “vision”, Acts 18:9.

Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city,” Acts 18: 9 -10.

Consequently, Apostle Paul stayed in Corinth for eighteen months “teaching the Word of God,” among the people, Acts 18:11. Many citizens of Corinth believed and were saved.

Apostle Paul may have taught of leaving Corinth because of the initial poor and negative reception of the Word of God mainly by the Jews. However, despite their contradictions and blasphemies, many received salvation.

The Lord spoke to Apostle Paul and he stayed on in Corinth for one year and six months. Because he stayed, many people received salvation because he preached the Word of God to them and they believed.

Many times when it seem you are not getting through, in your teaching and preaching, to people; we sometime need some reassuring from Jesus to persevere knowing he is always with us.

Jesus demonstrated yet again that he operates through his disciples. He makes the crucial decisions. After all, this is Jesus’ Second Missionary Journey, demonstrated by the operation of the Holy Ghost through Apostle Paul.

The operation of signs, wonders and miracles by Apostle Paul demonstrate the power of God working through him. The faculty to make phenomenal decision at the appropriate time is a display of the knowledge of the Holy Ghost in Paul. This is not Apostle Paul’s might and power, nor is this his knowledge but it’s Jesus Christ’ the Holy Ghost in him. The Apostle Paul will endure great persecutions to fulfill the Lord’s purpose for his life!
