Power of Unity – Power of Success
Power of unity, togetherness and oneness is the power of the Spirit of Christ at work among his people, Christ’s Disciples.
As we continue our study of the Book of Acts, we are at the end of Chapter Four, Acts 4:32 – 37. The Apostles prayed a powerful prayer, which the Lord confirms with an earthquake and with tongues. The disciples of Jesus Christ are united like never before. Power of unity and togetherness is palpable among them.
The power of unity is evident among the disciples as they unite and prayed about their common problem, the “threatenings” of the Jewish Religious Council. This spirit of togetherness, promoted a oneness, which is of God.
Believers should learn the power of unity from the Early Church experiences. They experienced obstacles and persecutions which only serve to push them closer to Jesus in prayers. They had closer relationship with Christ and demonstrated the awesome resurrection power of Jesus as a result.
When people are of one accord great things happen. This similar attitude of oneness was displayed among the disciples immediately before the baptism of the Holy Ghost, on Pentecost. Now, the disciples are united again but on a more advanced scale because their membership has increased by more than ten thousand new Believers. Greater things are imminent, the power of unity is about to materialize.
The Spirit of Christ is the Power of Unity
The last time we observe such wide scale demonstration of the power of unity God intervened. When a people is one, “nothing will be restrained from them which they have imagined to do,” Genesis 11:6. This time however, God will not intervene for He is in the middle of it.
The disciples we so united the Bible describes them as being “of one heart and one soul.” This is similar to how many ants operate together as one ant. To describe many persons this way is to make them one. Many people functioning and behaving as one entity demonstrates, the Spirit of Christ is at work among them. This is when the impossible becomes possible this shows the power of unity at work.
There is no limit to the potential of the Church when the Church unites in purpose. The impossible is possible when Believers are together and the power of unity is at work. The impossible is attainable when the Church is “of one heart.” This was the experience of the First Century Church, the disciples and Twelve Apostles were united like never before.
This is the work of the Lord God. He will not hinder the preaching of His Word, He empowers and facilitates the preaching and teaching of the same.
Power of Unity - Promotes Unselfish Behavior
The power of unity of a group also promotes unselfishness among its members. For the advancement of the group, self is constantly being denied. The demonstration of unselfishness among the Believers was so profound it redefined them. The Believers no longer regard their personal possessions as their own but as belonging to the Body of Christ, Acts 4:32. As a result, of this unselfish behavior “they had all things common.”
By their unselfish actions the Church provides for everyone, “neither was there any among them that lacked”, Acts 4:34. This is the same spirit or attitude Joses Barnabas demonstrated, Acts 4:36 – 37. It is note worthy, to mention, nobody asked the disciples or Believers, like Jose Barnabas, to sell their possessions, they did this of their own free will, voluntarily. By their own free will the disciples showed the power of unity, the power of oneness, self interest was but aside and the interest of the Church was advanced, the power of unity.
In such an atmosphere of unity, togetherness and oneness the demonstration of power is inevitable.
“And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all,” Acts 4:33.
The power of unity, the resurrection power of the Holy Ghost, is for all Believers who receive the Spirit of Christ. The power of unity is the power of success , it is the power of togetherness, it is the spirit of oneness it is the Spirit of Christ. The power of unity makes the impossible possible!
