Power & Authority in Christ

Authority Without Power

It is futile to have authority and no power. Power is what gets the job done. In the secular world, authority comes with power. A policeman has the authority and the power to stop pedestrians and or motor vehicles and search them if he has good reason to think a search is needed.  In the kingdom of Heaven, authority comes separately from power. Jesus Christ equipped and authorized his disciples to preach but they had to wait for the power because he was not going to be with them. As long as Jesus was with them they had power but after speaking with them he would return to heaven. So they had to wait for their empowering.

But you Shall Receive Power

As Believers, whether we speak, teach, preach or baptize someone in the name of Jesus Christ we do this with the authority Christ gave to his Church. Anyone can speak or teach in the name of Jesus Christ but not all have the power. Seven sons of a Jew, “chief of the high priest” , tried it but they were wounded, made naked and disgraced in Ephesus, Acts 19:13-17.

But Jesus Christ after he had equipped and authorized, then he en-powered his disciples for he told them:  you “shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and”  you  “shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth,” Acts 1:8. Only Believers with the “power from on high” will heal the sick, make the lame to walk and the blind to see. You receive this power when you receive the gift of the Holy Ghost speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives you the “utterance.” Do you have this power? This is the power of God. This is the resurrection power which rose Jesus Christ from the dead. It is only when you have repented, buried with Christ and received this power are you equipped, authorized and en-powered to work in Jesus name.

The Power of the Gospel: Jesus Christ Died Once For All

Finally, by accepting the gospel of Jesus Christ, that is, his death burial and resurrection we realize we do not need any more killings of animals because Christ die once for all: “For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he”  lives, “he”  lives  ”unto God,” Romans 6:10. “For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again,” 2 Corinthians 5:14-15.  The power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to atone for the sin of the word is absolute. The power of preaching repentance and remission of sins through Christ is most powerful to remove sins.
