Christian Prayer Times: How Often Should Believers Pray?

Pray: Frequency and Duration

“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint”, Luke 18:1.

Is the frequency of your prayer important to you? Is how often you pray, important to you, to the Lord or both?

How often Believers pray and the duration of our prayers to the Lord are inextricably connected. How often we pray may impacts the length of each prayer session. If a believer prays frequently, he may shorten each prayer session because of the high frequency of prayers. Inversely, how long a believer prays may affect how many times he prays. For example, a believer who prays occasionally may increase the duration for each prayer to compensate for the reduced frequency. What is your opinion of Christian prayer times, how often do you pray?

No Direct Commandment From Jesus – How Often to Pray

There is no direct commandment from the Lord addressing how frequently Believers should pray. However, there is never a scarcity of rich examples to learn from the Bible. Let us now, peruse a few scriptures to learn from Bible characters what the Word of God says about Christian prayer times, and learn how often they pray? First, let us examine how often Daniel, David and Jesus pray.

How Often Did Bible Characters Pray?

Both Daniel and David prayed at least three times each day. “Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he knelled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime”, Daniel 6:10.David declares, “evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud (Suppilcation): and he (God) shall hear my voice”, Psalm 55:17.Although Daniel and David had this aspect of their prayer life in common, there was a difference. David also prayed “at midnight”, Psalm 119:62. That was not the only dis-similar thing about these two. David was praying very early in the morning before many believers are up. He “prevented the dawning of the morning” because he was up crying “aloud” to the Lord in prayer, Psalm 119:147.

Finally, Jesus had early devotions too, Mark 1:35. So did Job (Job 1:5), and Samuel’s parents, (1 Samuel 1:19) and Hezekiah, 2 Chronicles 29:20.

Make Prayer Your Number One Priority – Pray Everyday

One thing is abundantly clear from all these scenarios, praying to the Lord was very important to them. How important is your Christian prayer times? How often do you pray? Thank you for writing about the important distinction between frequency of prayer and length of prayer. I don’t recall encountering that before. Then there’s 1 Thess. 5:17–pray without ceasing. It is good and necessary to aside a special daily time for prayer–or two or three. It’s also good and necessary to pray while doing other things. It’s easy to pray too little. It’s impossible to pray too much.

Thanks Mary. To be spiritual you must be born again that is the start. Having authority and power with God comes with being born again and your personal relationship with God. Blessings Mary.
