Believe on the Son of God

Let us start with the general and move to the specifics. From the Scriptures, we know, that God loves the world “so” much he sent His ONLY “begotten” son that whoever believes in him will have everlasting life, John 3:16.

Regardless of our status in life, regardless of our nationality, regardless of our religious beliefs, our race, our sexual orientation or even our gender the Son of God died for us. If we do nothing, with this ultimate gesture of love, Jesus’ death will never be beneficial to us. What must we do to inherit eternal life? We must believe in the name of Jesus the Christ, the Son of God to receive His gift of everlasting life.

The scriptures tell of Jesus’ parents and siblings, so how is he the Son of God? The Church by the New Covenant are all children (sons) of God. To be a son of God one must believe on the name of Jesus, John 1:12. But Jesus is the ONLY “begotten” Son of God.  He is the only son or child that was fathered or “begotten” by the Highest, The Almighty, The Holy Ghost, by God.  Jesus is the only natural child of the Holy Ghost all His other children are adopted. Even the nation of Israel, fundamentally, is adopted by God because He never sired them like He did Jesus.

This is a summary of the situation concerning Jesus’ birth. Mary the mother of Jesus, who was at that time still a virgin, was approached by an angel of God, Gabriel. He told her she is “highly favoured” with God and “blessed” as a woman. Gabriel continued to explained to Mary how she would conceive a son, his name, his status in life, his relationship to God and his earthly kingdom.

Finally,  very puzzled, Mary asked Gabriel the big question, “how” shall this happen, I am a virgin? She did not ask him where or when but how. Gabriel in turn, informed Mary and us, “…The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God”, Luke 1:35. There you have it, because the power of God impregnated Mary her earthly son Jesus is called the Son of God. No other person has this privilege that he was conceived and born like Jesus Christ.

The belief in the name of Jesus the Christ as the Son of God is a road to everlasting life

Many attest to the son-ship of Jesus including devils, John the Baptist, Nathand and many more. John, when  he saw the Spirit as a dove descends, rest and remained on Jesus he acknowledged  him as the “Son of God”, John 1:33,34.

Andrew after a meeting with Jesus declared to his brother Simon he had found the “Messias” which means the Christ, John 1:41.

Moses, in the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Bible and many other prophets wrote about the Messiah, the Christ, John 1:45. The prophecies concerning the Christ are numerous, totaling more than six hundred and sixty. The major prophecies defined two main characteristics of the Messiah. First, he will speak the words of God and he will speak God’s words in God’s name, Deuteronomy 18:19-20. These were fulfill in Jesus Christ, see the Acts 3:20-26.

With the advent of the Christ, the Messiah - the Anointed One or the Prophet comes an important responsibility. Whoever hears the Messiah speaks and refuses to listen and do according to all his words God will “require” them of him.

In congruent with his Christ -ship, Jesus made two significant declarations. First, that he comes in his Father’s name (John 5:43) and the words he speak are not his but his Father’s, John 7:16.

Now that we have established that Jesus is the Christ and the Son of God let us believe. Believe in the name of Jesus, the Christ, the Son of God the only way to eternal life. Do you believe that Jesus the Christ is the Son of God?

The belief in the name of Jesus the Christ as the Son of God is a road to everlasting life. This journey consist of steps or actions towards everlasting life. If you hold this belief  you have just started the life long travel to eternal life.

According to the Bible, the Acts 2:38, the Apostle Peter urged the people who just start on the road to eternal life to “repent”. To repent is to be sorry for one’s sins and turn to God. It means to have a change of mind about one’s life. Belief puts one on the road but repentance is the first  step toward eternal life. To  get to eternal life one needs to move to another location, take steps.

He that believes on the Son of God and is baptized shall be saved

The next step is water baptism. Jesus calls this “born of water”, John 3:5. Peter, continued to urge everyone to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the removal and forgiveness of their sins. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved, Mark 16:16.  Are you baptized? Do you think water baptism was only for the early Church? The promise of the Holy Ghost is for you and your posterity “and to all that are afar off”, Acts 2:39. We are still on the road to everlasting life  but much closer than when we first believed.

Continuing on the journey to eternal life, the next step is to wait for the promise of the Holy Ghost, Spirit baptism. Jesus calls this “born of the Spirit”. Jn 3:5. This is not a passive wait. No. It involve seeking God daily through study of His Words and daily prayers and relating to people.

The next step is “love one another”.  Yet another step is to “do those things that are pleasing in His (God’s) sight”, 1 John 3:22-23.

Finally, believe in the name of Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, the only way to life everlasting. Except for both baptisms  all other steps will be repeated  many times and in any order all your life on this earth. The key to everlasting life is to stay on the road, never stop believing in the name of Jesus Christ. Peter sums it up nicely, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved”, Acts 4:12. All this was written “…that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name”, John 20:31.
