Idolatry: How The Lord Sees It And His Penalties For Those Who Break His Covenant

Idolatry takes place when the LORD is not your God.

Idolatry, if you worship another god, not the Lord Jesus.

Idolatry, Stay Far From It!

Many non-Christians are of the opinion, idolatry does not concern them because they serve some other gods, they are  not accountable to the Almighty. Some, may even think, a person is at liberty to believe and choose whomever he serves and worships and think nothing of idolatry.  Still, others have their own opinions, of how to serve their gods.  This rule is applicable to any principle of God: we do not behave or do what we desire instead, we do what The Lord God requires. Doing anything else is idolatry.

The Lord is a fixed principle, (Hebrews 13:8). He does not change to accommodate people or situations and neither should we.  Instead we operate or conduct ourselves according to the Word of God in every circumstance. At least try!

Does The Theory of Evolution Justifies Idolatry?

The Lord created the heaven and the earth and all that are in them ( Colossians 1:16). If you believe anything else, that is idolatry.  The Theory of Evolution is just that, – a theory - some idea born from a diabolical plan to deceive people. A theory full of idolatry.  This Theory is younger than the earth. Therefore,  if a person believes in it and not God, does it mean he is not answerable to God concerning his worship of God? No. Every person who was ever born, was born with one main purpose, to worship and serve the LORD God. How does the Lord see this? He sees a failure to keep His first commandment as idolatry.

Below is a recount of a scenario in Deuteronomy chapter 17  which describes how God  deals with His people of covenant, the children of Israel, when they committed idolatry. The Lord uses strong language like “wickedness” and “wicked thing” to describe this behavior. This “wickedness” is idolatry.

This “wicked thing” involves breaking His covenant and serving other gods. This wicked thing is idolatry. These gods include “the host of heaven”, that is the sun, or the  moon or the stars. Today, we know of people who worship all these things and more, they are committing idolatry. Some even worship animals like cows, and alligators and so on, idolatry. The Lord has already cautioned  Israel of idolatry, see Deuteronomy 4:15-19. This worship  is a violation of the commandment the Lord gave Israel, stay away from idolatry. Which states, “thou shalt have none other gods before me”, Deuteronomy 5:7. Idolatry, is any thing or person that takes the place of the LORD God. Anything or person you worship which is not the LORD, idolatry. There is a reason this  directive is first. If we honor and worship God by keeping this commandment we would have kept all the others. When you put the LORD God first in your life, it shows you love HIM. By placng the  LORD God first, you have obeyed Him. We worship and serve He whom we love. Anthing thing else is idolatry.

There is a Penalty for Idolatry

The Lord commands the children of Israel to conduct a “diligent”  assessment of themselves to ascertain the veracity of the “rumor” of idolatry, and “if you prove this thing (idolatry) to be true” the consequence is fatal.

The Lord institutes a time proved judicial system. This system resolves every  “matter of controversy” and “removes the evil (idolatry) from among” Israel. Our modern judicial system borrows heavily from this “ancient” one. However, ours need some fine-tuning.

If this is how tolerable the Lord is with His people of covenant. What will be reaction to persons who neglect and forget Him (idolatry)? How will he treat those who never knew Him or serve Him (idolatry)? The command to avoid idolatry, is not for one nation or people but all,
