Observe Month Abib Keep Passover to LORD God
Today, April 14th, 2010, is the Passover of the Lord. I had a different post scheduled for today but changed it when I realised the significance of this date. The Lord told Israel, “Observe the month of Abib, and keep the passover unto the LORD thy God: for in the month of Abib the LORD thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night.” Deuteronomy 16:1. In order to “keep” the passover Israel must “kill it”, the lamb, and “eat it.”

Jesus Christ is The Passover Lamb
Jesus Christ is the passover lamb. Twice when John The Baptist saw Jesus passing in the streets, he told his disciples look, see ”the Lamb of God”. John 1:29, 36. The body of Jesus Christ represents the flesh of the passover sacrifice. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ represents the killing or sacrifice of the passover.
The lamb should be without “blemish”. The Scriptures teach, Jesus Christ grew “in favour with God and man”. There was no “blemish” or spot on his character or reputation. See Luke 2:52. He had a good report from both man and God.
The Scriptures teach that all Israel should “kill” the passover. Literally, “all” of Israel was screaming at Pilate “His blood be on us, and on our children”, crucify him. See Matthew 27:22-23.
The passover was killed in the evening of the fourteenth of Abib. Jesus was crucified in the evening of the fourteen of Abib. He was crucified in the “ninth hour”, in the evening. See Matthew 27:45;Mark 15:33-37; Luke 23:44-46 and John 19:42.
No bones of the sacrifice must be broken. “33But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: ” “36For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.”John 19:33, 36.
A very important part of the passover is the blood of the lamb. When the angel of God saw the blood of the lamb on the house of the Israelites they were spared but all the first born of Egypt was kill both of man and beasts.
In Saint Matthew chapter twenty six (Matthew 26:26) Jesus gave his disciples the bread of the passover (unleavened bread) and told them ” Take, eat; this is my body.” He really was telling them he is the passover of the Lord for the New Testament and his body is the sacrifice for the world. He did a similar thing with the wine he told them “Drink ye all of it; 28For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”
Finally, the blood of the passover saved Israel then and the blood of Jesus Christ save the world, today, from sin. Jesus via the passover freed his chosen peculiar people of covenant form the bondage of sin and simultaneously dealt a devastating knock-out south paw to the kingdom of Satan. He killed all the first born of Egypt to show that He is God Almighty and there is none like Him. Jesus by his death, burial and resurrection demonstrated that “against all the gods of Egypt (the world) I will execute judgement: I am the Lord.” Exodus 12:12. By the passover of the Lord Jesus Christ the world has forgivenessof sins.
